The flora of microalgae, which is the main source of mucilage (sea saliva) affecting the Marmara Sea, was determined. Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University Faculty of Pharmacy, Head of the Department of Pharmacy Professions Prof. Dr. Köksal Pabuçcu, about mucilage, said, “First they multiply a lot, bloom and then they produce mucilage. Pabuçcu, at the press conference held at the faculty building, said that microalgae are actually very useful organisms.
Explaining that microalgae contribute 60 percent to atmospheric oxygen, Pabuçcu said, “When they see unfavorable conditions, they turn into a cystic structure. First they multiply, they bloom and then they produce mucilage. In the first place, we determined the organisms in mucilage. What kind of microalgae are they. We have identified this. We are planning to evaluate the pharmaceutical ones and the mucilage itself.” used the phrase.
OXYGEN SOLUTION TO SEA SALAD
Stating that they aim to eliminate the problem by oxygenating the mucilage in the glass aquarium they created in the laboratory, Pabuçcu said:
“We put one-tenth of the sea saliva in the water and oxygenated it. We observed that the seaweed was homogenized and fragmented in about 2 hours. About 2 hours after the fragmentation, we observed that the algae in the form of cysts, which were in the almost dead position, were reactivated and mobilized. They started photosynthesis in the light again and returned to the old positive state. They took their positions.”
‘WE ARE PLANNING TO PROVIDE COSMETICS AND CREAM’
Pabuçcu also said that they are planning to produce a cosmetic gel or cream from mucilage and that they have started a study. Rector Prof. Dr. Akin Levent also attended.
