Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank visited the facility that started production under the TCL brand in Çerkezköy OSB, located in Kapaklı district of Tekirdağ. TCL collaborated with Arçelik. TCL will produce phones in Turkey. TCL Corporation is a multinational electronics company headquartered in Huizhou city, Guangdong province, China. It designs, develops, manufactures and sells products such as television receivers, mobile phones, smartphones, air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators and small electrical appliances. In 2010, it was the 25th largest electronics manufacturer in the world. It was the third largest television manufacturer by market share in 2013.

The company was founded in 1981 as a cassette manufacturer under the TTK brand, and TDK Corporation released cassettes. After being sued by TDK for intellectual property infringement in 1985, the company handed over its brand to TCL. The name was the initials of Telephone Communication Limited. It started producing consumer electronics in the Chinese market in the 1980s and began selling abroad in the 2000s.

Although it is a State-owned State-Owned Enterprise, TCL was established as a joint venture with several Hong Kong-based investors. In July 2003, TCL president Li Dongsheng officially announced the “Dragon and Tiger Plan” to establish two competitive TCL businesses in global markets (“Dragons”) and three leading companies in China (“Tigers”).

In November 2003, TCL and France’s Technicolor SA announced the creation of a joint venture to manufacture televisions and DVD players worldwide. TCL acquired 67% of the joint venture, Thomson SA held the remainder of the shares and agreed to market televisions made by TCL-Thomson under the brand in Asia and the Thomson and RCA brands in Europe. In April 2004, TCL and Alcatel announced the establishment of a mobile phone manufacturing joint venture of the same name. TCL paid 55 million euros in the venture for a 55 percent stake.

In May 2005, TCL announced that it would purchase Alcatel’s 45% stake in the mobile phone joint venture for $63.34 million ($8.1 million) of TCL Multimedia shares. In June 2007, TCL announced that its mobile phone division plans to stop using the Alcatel brand and switch entirely to the TCL brand within five years. In April 2008, Samsung Electronics announced that it would outsource the production of some LCD TV modules to TCL.

In July 2008, TCL announced plans to raise 1.7 billion yuan ($249 million) through share settlements to finance two production lines for LCD televisions. TCL sold a total of 4.18 million LCD TV sets in 2008; this number tripled during 2007.

In February 2014, TCL spent RMB 280 million to acquire an 11% stake in “Tianjin 712 Communication & Broadcasting Co., Ltd”, a Chinese military company that manufactures communication devices and navigation systems for the Chinese military. In October 2014, TCL acquired the Palm brand from Hewlett-Packard for use in smartphones. In 2016, TCL agreed with BlackBerry Limited to produce smartphones under the BlackBerry brand with BlackBerry Mobile.
