Russia’s Federal Information Technologies and Mass Communication Supervisory Authority (Roskomnadzor) announced that the decision to slow down the speed of the social media application Twitter has been partially lifted and the application will not be banned.

From the Russian Federal Information Technologies and Mass Communication Supervisory Authority (Roskomnadzor), it was stated that Twitter deleted 91 percent of the requested prohibited content.

In the statement, which pointed out that there is no need to ban Twitter due to the removal of the content in question, “The decision to slow down the speed for Twitter will continue on mobile devices, and will be removed on fixed internet connections.” It was said.

In the statement, it was noted that banned content was detected on YouTube and Facebook, and the speed of both sites could be slowed down if the content in question was not removed.

With the decision taken on March 10, Roskomnadzor slowed Twitter’s speed by 50 percent due to not removing content that encouraged suicide, obscene and drug abuse.
