Spanish scientists published a clinical study investigating the effectiveness of same-day rapid antigen tests (Ag-RDT) used for the detection of Kovid-19 in a mass concert indoors. According to the results of the study, which is a first at the clinical level; 465 people who participated in the study and whose rapid Kovid-19 test was negative, did not catch Kovid-19 after the concert, despite the lack of social distance.

A separate clinical study was conducted during the concert in the city of Barcelona on December 12, 2020, at the Sala Apolo concert center, to evaluate the risk of Kovid-19 transmission and attended by thousands of people. With the scientific study published in the Lancet medical journal; When combined with rapid antigen tests, mask and active ventilation system, which give results on the same day, it was determined that collective events to be held indoors are safe.

THE RESULT IS DELIVERED TO THE PARTICIPANTS AFTER 15 MINUTES

Spanish scientists applied Ag-RDT test to 465 people in the experimental group, aged between 18 and 59, in the morning before entering the concert. Participants installed two applications on their smartphones: test result and radar application for contact tracking. The result came to each participant’s phone as a notification 15 minutes later.

PCR TEST AND CELL CULTURE ANALYSIS PERFORMED FOR CROSS CONTROL

The forehead body temperature of all participants who received N95 masks at the entrance of the concert was measured at the entrance of the concert hall. Participants were allowed to sing and dance on demand in the 900-person capacity concert hall, provided they did not remove their masks. Indoor temperature and carbon dioxide measurements were measured regularly. Samples from these individuals were also subjected to PCR tests and cell culture analysis for cross-check. It was determined that only one person from the control and experimental group, whose rapid antigen test was negative, had a positive PCR test, and the cell culture analysis of both groups gave negative results like the rapid test.

PRELIMINARY EVIDENCE OF SAFETY OF INDOOR MASS EVENTS PROVIDED

Spanish scientists said the study provides preliminary evidence of the safety of indoor public events during a COVID-19 outbreak under comprehensive preventive response. The obtained efficiency of the rapid test data measured; It was stated that it will help to restart cultural activities that were suspended during Kovid-19. It was explained that the main advantages of Ag-RDTs include low price, no need for high-tech laboratory dispatch and providing results in a short time. The scientists noted that although Ag-RDTs have an overall lower sensitivity than other Covid-19 tests as a result of the clinical trial, a growing body of evidence indicates that they are suitable for identifying people who could potentially transmit the virus.
