Scientists have determined that the Tyrannosaurus rex (T-Rex) dinosaur species walked at a slower pace than expected, but closer to humans.

According to the report on CNN, in the study published in the journal “Royal Society Open Science”, Dutch palaeontologists created a three-dimensional model of the 12-meter adult T-Rex fossil found in the natural history museum Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden city and calculated the step rhythms of the dinosaur.

In their study, paleontologists, who also took into account the dinosaur’s large tail, concluded that the normal walking speed of the T-Rex could be 4.6 kilometers per hour.

Stating that the T-Rex actually has a speed close to humans on average, scientists noted that in previous studies, the T-Rex’s legs were looked at in calculating the walking speed, but its heavy tail was not taken into account.
