President of the Presidency of Defense Industry İsmail Demir and Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. (TUSAŞ) General Manager Temel Kotil signed a contract on the ‘GÖKTÜRK Reconnaissance Surveillance Satellite System’ project. With the project, it is aimed to meet the high resolution electro-optical satellite image needs of the Turkish Armed Forces after the ‘GÖKTÜRK-1 Satellite System’ has completed its service life.

To the ceremony held at the Presidency of Defense Industries; İsmail Demir and Temel Kotil as well as SSB and TAI officials attended. In his speech here, Demir said that the defense industry sector will make the highest contribution to the work to be carried out under the coordination of the Turkish Space Agency in Turkey’s space program. Demir reminded that they opened ‘ROKETSAN Space Systems’ and ‘Advanced Technologies Center’ in order to provide independent access to space for Turkey, and that the Probe rocket launched with the ‘Micro Satellite Launch System’ developed by ROKETSAN crossed the space limit and was a first in this field. Stating that their first goal with the DELTA-V company, which was established within the SSB, is to cross the space border with a hybrid fuel rocket engine, Demir said, “These studies are projects where we aim to develop rockets that will go into space and the systems that will launch it, with domestic facilities.”

Reminding that Turkey’s first export in the field of space was the export of communication satellite technologies to Argentina by GSATCOM, a subsidiary of TUSAŞ, İsmail Demir said that they are working towards establishing a satellite company that will bring together the multiple structures in the country and will be the address of observation and communication satellites in Turkey. He said it continues. Demir said, “I wish God’s help and good luck to all our engineers and employees who will work in the GÖKTÜRK Reconnaissance Surveillance Satellite System Development Project.”

After the speeches, the signatures of the project were signed.

GÖKTÜRK RENOVATION SURVEILLANCE SATELLITE SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

With the project, it is aimed to meet the high resolution electro-optical satellite image needs of the Turkish Armed Forces after the ‘GÖKTÜRK-1 Satellite System’ has completed its service life. The ‘GÖKTÜRK Reconnaissance Surveillance Satellite’ will replace the GÖKTÜRK-1 satellite placed in its orbit in 2016 and will meet the high resolution imagery needs of our country. Within the scope of the project, systems/subsystems related to satellite, fixed ground station and portable ground station will be procured. In the project, which aims to develop and use many equipment and software locally, it is planned that Turkey will benefit more from the opportunities offered by space technology, use the existing opportunities, capabilities, human resources, infrastructure, talents in this field and ensure the continuity of the gains obtained.
