Russia fines Facebook and Telegram

The Russian court fined Facebook, one of the social media platforms, 17 million rubles for administrative violation, and 10 million rubles for the Telegram messaging application.

The lawsuits filed by Russia’s Federal Information Technologies and Mass Media Supervision Agency (Roskomnadzor) against Telegram and Facebook were heard at the Taganskiy Court in the capital, Moscow.

The court ruled that the companies did not comply with the legislation because the content that was banned in Russia could be accessed via Facebook and Telegram, fined Facebook 17 million rubles and Telegram 10 million rubles.

Roskomnadzor has previously filed lawsuits against social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok for similar reasons.
