‘No discipline will be independent from space in the near term’


Turkish Space Agency President Serdar Hüseyin Yıldırım spoke at the opening of the “4th Lagari Aviation and Defense Days” event, organized online by the Bursa Technical University Space Aviation and Defense Industry Community, which will last for 3 days.

Stating that the old space age is over and a new space age has begun, Yıldırım said, “The difference between the new and the old one is that almost all states and companies in the world are working on space. These studies are not in the acquisition of two great powers as in the past, and we expect it to become more common. ” he spoke.

Pointing out that the subject of space will leave its mark on the next 10 years, Yıldırım said that there will be a period when nothing without space will be unthinkable.

Emphasizing that as Turkey, they are trying to keep up with this pace and represent the country in the best way with intensive work, Yıldırım stated that all the work in space affects the world and Turkey and will continue to do so.

Yıldırım expressed that Turkey cannot be left out of the developments regarding space.

“The private sector should be involved”

Stating that the space economy will exceed $ 1 trillion in a few years, Yıldırım explained that there will be developments such as mining, production and tourism in space.

Pointing out that ecosystem development is important in space studies, Yıldırım said:

“With the efforts of only a few state institutions, it is very difficult for space studies to reach the goal. The private sector should definitely get involved and take responsibility. We need to take advantage of the dynamism of the private sector. Of course, the private sector also has its problems. We have to solve them.”

Emphasizing the importance of human resources in space studies, Yıldırım said that if there are no well-trained, experienced and visionary human resources, things will not work as desired.

Yıldırım stated that they had targets to reach 10 thousand experts on this subject within 10 years.

Stating that the subject of space will constantly advance, Yıldırım stated that space will become indispensable in all systems.

Yıldırım gave suggestions to young people about space and advised all young people to head to the space field.

Emphasizing that people who think to read and work in the sections about space have a clear path, Yıldırım stated that the Agency is working to create a ground on these issues and will continue to work.

Touching on the subject of space law and medicine, Yıldırım explained the work they carried out as an agency on these issues.

Stating that they aim to rapidly develop Turkey’s infrastructure in space observation, Yıldırım said, “No discipline will be independent from space in the near future. Therefore, we need to act with awareness of the importance of these developments. In this regard, our Agency has important duties. business is falling. ” said.
