ASELSAN carries out activities that will facilitate the daily life in cities with the activities it carries out in the field of smart transportation systems.

Traffic management systems developed by ASELSAN perform functions such as incident detection, weather / road condition measurement, traffic data measurement, intersection attendance control, passenger information / guidance and video management in order to use roads more effectively and prevent traffic accidents.

Within the scope of automation systems, vehicle and license plate recognition, advanced agriculture automation, disaster and emergency management systems are developed and put into service.

ASELSAN started mass production of traffic management devices with Turkish Standards Institute certificates at the end of the studies. In this context, intersection control device, variable message / traffic signs and traffic signaling systems were offered to the users. The first installation of the products was carried out in Kırıkkale within the scope of the contracted project.

The intersection control devices installed provide traffic management at both intersection and city scale by communicating with each other. Unlike the use of predetermined plans, which is the method generally used in the industry, the system works in real time with a fully adaptive model. Using various sensors such as cameras and loop detectors and image processing technologies, the duration of the traffic lights at the next intersections is determined instantly with the vehicle density information coming from the intersections. For example, if there is no vehicle in one of the intersection branches, the green light is not turned on for that direction in order to increase the efficiency of the traffic flow.

According to the data collected before and after the use of the junction control device at the specified intersections, on average, 26 percent in delays per vehicle, 16 percent in the number of stops per vehicle, 510 liters in total daily fuel consumption and 1220 kilograms in total daily carbon dioxide emissions are achieved.
