Eskişehir high school student developed a robot dog


Yıldırım, who wanted to evaluate the period he stayed at home during the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) epidemic, rolled up his sleeves to make a “robot dog” with the support of the project’s advisor and the school’s Computer Instructional Technologies teacher, Hicret Koyuncu.

Lightning has completed the modular robot dog whose capacity and capability can be improved. The robot dog, whose design and software belongs to Yıldırım, was produced in such a way that all systems and components on it can be removed and installed completely.

At the same time, many areas feature available with design by Turkey Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) organized by the 52 High School Students Research Projects Competition in the final to qualify to participate, TEKNOFEST 2021, the precursor of the last lightning, continue to develop meat that robot dog drone system continues to work to include.

“I designed it after about 6 months of work”

Halid Yıldırım stated that he had been dealing with plug-and-play toys since an early age, and that he later owned a 3D printer with the support of his family.

Stating that he learned robotic coding and worked on software, Yıldırım continued as follows:

“I determined different projects and started to make software, hardware and electronics myself. During the Kovid-19 epidemic, everyone was closed to homes. When the schools switched to the distance education system, the young people stayed at home. I wanted to make good use of this period. The hardware, software and design belong to me. I used Fusion 360 as the design program. I removed the plastic parts myself with a 3D printer. I designed and soldered the electrical and data distribution installations with various programs. I used Arduino software. I wrote the kinematic formulas personally. “

Yıldırım stated that all systems, components, batteries, computer, regulator unit, gas sensor and lidar on the robot dog can be removed and installed completely.

Referring to the functions of the robot, Yıldırım said, “It can be customized for use in different business lines and different application areas. Instead of producing different robots for each work area, I preferred to produce different modules for a single robot dog. It has a fixed camera system on it. It has a Lidar and gas sensor. I’m still working, it will be completed shortly. ” said.

Yıldırım stated that he plans to study computer engineering in the future and wants to specialize in quantum computers and artificial intelligence.

It can also be used in mining accidents, search and rescue, detection of toxic gases.

Project consultant Hicret Koyuncu stated that Halid Yıldırım, who they have been working on projects for about 1 year, came to him with the idea of ​​making a robot dog.

Explaining that there are various robot dog projects abroad, Koyuncu said:

“Boston Dynamics and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have robot dog projects, but the robot dog developed by my student allows it to be used in many areas. The biggest difference from its counterparts abroad is that it has removable modules. We participated in 3 projects with our robot dog. TÜBİTAK ‘ We took part in the 52nd High School Students Research Projects Competition organized by Şti., representing Eskişehir in the field of technological design and robotic coding, we made it to the Bursa regional final. This project will also bring success. We have passed the preliminary stage of TEKNOFEST. We participated in another contest for the use of robot dogs in search and rescue in mining accidents and in the detection of toxic gases. “
