Energy production from landfill gas increased in Istanbul!

The occupancy rate in Istanbul dams reached 70.6 percent. In the first two months of 2021, the most domestic waste was collected from Küçükçekmece. In the January-February period, 96,358 MWh of electrical energy was generated from landfill gas. 16.6 percent of the total electricity consumption of which occurred in Istanbul in Turkey, with 36.9 per cent was recorded in most commercial consumption. In two months, 24,000 cubic meters of waste was collected from 937 ships.

The Istanbul Statistics Office, operating under the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Istanbul Planning Agency, published the March 2021 Istanbul Environment Bulletin on Istanbul. The bulletin contained water, environmental management, cleaning and electrical energy statistics regarding Istanbul.

96 THOUSAND 358 MWH ELECTRICITY GENERATED FROM LANDBACK GAS

With the newly opened facilities, electricity generation from landfill gas has increased. In the January-February period of 2021, 96,358 megawatt hours of electricity was generated from landfill gas. 50 thousand 177 MWh of energy, 52 percent of this, was obtained from the Odayeri Kalyoncu facilities opened this year and Seymen facilities opened in September 2020. With the newly opened facilities, energy production from landfill gas in Istanbul reached 51 thousand 10 MWh in January.

16.6 PERCENT OF TOTAL ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION IS IN ISTANBUL

The highest occupancy was Ömerli with 87.7 percent and Darlık with 83.7 percent; The lowest occupancy was seen in Sazlıdere Dam with 37.2 percent and Pabuçdere Dam with 50.3 percent. Ömerli Dam covered 33.6 percent of the total water in Istanbul’s dams.

HIGHEST DOMESTIC WASTE COLLECTED FROM KÜÇÜKÇEKMECE

The district with the highest amount of domestic waste collected in the first two months of 2021 was Küçükçekmece with 36 thousand 201 tons. Pendik, Bağcılar and Ümraniye followed Küçükçekmece district, respectively.

5 THOUSAND TONS OF MEDICAL WASTE DISPOSED

As of the end of February, 5,151 tons of medical waste was collected, 81 percent of which was disposed by sterilization and 16 percent by incineration.

APPROXIMATELY 247 THOUSAND SQUARE METERS ARE WASHED PER DAY

The mechanical sweeping area, which is carried out by İSTAÇ every day, was on average 6 million 421 thousand 74 square meters. In 2020, a total area of ​​2 billion 151 million 60 thousand square meters was swept. The average daily washing area in Istanbul squares was 246 thousand 746 square meters.

24 THOUSAND CUBIC METERS OF WASTE COLLECTED FROM 937 SHIPS

In the first two months of 2021, 24,000 cubic meters of waste was collected from 937 ships. The year in which the most ship waste was collected since 2006 was 2015.
